Registration is fast, simple and free. Simply click the "Register Now" link at the top of the homepage. Fill in the form with your information, and check your email. After registering, you will be able to browse the site and purchase notes.
After login, you can add classes by clicking the "Add/Edit Classes" link at the top of the white box in the center of the logged in "My Locker" page. After following the link, search for your classes in the "Select Classes" field. If your class does not exist, add it to MakeUp Notes in the "Create Class" field, by filling in the correct information about your class. Then be sure to take notes for the class and upload them to MakeUp Notes to begin earning money for your class notes and helping your fellow students.
Search for notes by clicking the "Buy Notes" link on the top left of the logged in homepage or the top right of the logged in "My Locker". The corresponding page will allow you to search for notes in your class, or search for notes in any class at any college. To search for notes in your class, click the "Search Notes" link next to the class for which you want notes.
After searching in the class you need notes for on the logged in "My Locker" page, there may be several versions of the class's notes. Click the "Buy Notes" link next to the notes you want to buy, and then on the following "Note Details" page, we provide a system to evaluate Notetakers in the form of feedback for those notes as well as the seller's "MakeUp Notes GPA" will appear. Use these criteria to determine which set of notes you would like to purchase.
MakeUp Notes offers all available notes from any school. To search for notes from other schools click the "Buy Notes" link at the top of the logged in "My Locker" page. This link will take you to the "Search Notes" page. Use the search fields to select a school, or for all schools choose "Select a School", pick a subject from the dropdown or leave it blank if you do not know the name of the class. Fill in any keywords you can to limit your results and click "Find Notes".
After searching on the logged in "My Locker" page and selecting a set of notes for purchase, click the "Buy Notes" link on the bottom of the "Note Details" page for the notes you selected. This link will redirect you to the PayPal website, where you can safely pay for your notes using a credit/debit card or your PayPal account.
After paying for your notes on PayPal, you will be redirected back to the MakeUp Notes website. After returning, click on the "Administration" link in the logged in "My Locker", where all notes that you have purchased are located. Select the note you would like to download and click the "Download Note" link. A small popup will open prompting you for your password. The password required is your MakeUp Notes password. After entering your password, an Adobe ".pdf" file containing your notes will open. Please be aware that it is normal for there to be a slight delay while the file is opened.
Feedback is a critical tool MakeUp Notes uses to ensure the quality of the notes available for download. Be sure to leave accurate feedback for each set of notes you purchase. To leave feedback, after logging into MakeUp Notes, click on the "Administration" link in "My Locker" and click "Leave Feedback" next to the set of notes for which you would like to leave feedback. This link will take you to the "Feedback" page, where you can review the note details to be certain you are leaving feedback for the correct set of notes. At the bottom of the page, grade the notes based on a school style grading scale as outlined below:
"A" - Everything I could have asked for
"B" - Everything I needed
"C" - Nothing important was missing
"D" - Valuable information was missing
"F" - Incomplete and/or inaccurate
After selecting a letter grade, leave any text feedback you feel is relevant, such as "These notes helped me pass my test"
In the worst-case scenario in which the Notetaker's notes are entirely insufficient or are perhaps they uploaded the wrong notes, MakeUp Notes will issue you a refund for the full sale price of the notes. To request a refund, go to the logged in "My Locker" page and select the "Administration" link at the top right of the white box. Click "Refund Request," then fill out the form to begin the refund process. A MakeUp Notes staff member will review the validity of your claim and will then issue a refund to the same account you paid from if your request is found to be valid. Note Sellers are an integral part of the MakeUp Notes website. Uploading your notes to MakeUp Notes is quick and easy. To register to sell notes, login to MakeUp Notes on the homepage after creating an account here, and then click the "Sell Notes" link at the top of the logged in "My Locker" page. You will be prompted to submit your PayPal email address. We use this email address solely for the purpose of sending your portion of the note sales. After entering this information, you have completed all the preparations required to sell notes on MakeUp Notes.
Begin uploading notes by clicking the "Sell Notes" link at the top of the logged in "My Locker" page, then click the "Add Notes" link which will take you to the page required to add notes. Select your class from the drop-down and fill in the form with the "Note Title", a brief "Note Description", and then select and upload your note file. To upload your note file, click the "Browse" button to search for the notes on your computer, select the file you would like to upload and click open. Next click the "Upload" button and then "Browse" to add more files if necessary as all files will be combined into one set of notes for purchase. Click "Save and View" to finish or "Save and Add Another" if you have more notes to upload.
MakeUp Notes accepts images of handwritten notes as well as your typed notes. As you take lecture notes for your classes, you will discover that some subjects may require you to take notes by hand rather than on a computer, while other students may prefer to take all their notes by hand. The process to upload these notes is the same as when uploading standard typed notes. Click the "Sell Notes" link at the top of the logged in "My Locker" page, then click the "Add Notes" link which will take you to the page required to add notes. Select your class from the drop-down and fill in the form with the "Note Title", a brief "Note Description", and then select and upload your note file. To upload your note file, click the "Browse" button to search for the notes on your computer, select the file you would like to upload and click open. Next click the "Upload" button and then "Browse" to add more files if necessary as all files will be combined into one set of notes for purchase. Click "Save and View" to finish or "Save and Add Another" if you have more notes to upload. When this happens, Notetakers need to take extra precautions to ensure the quality of their notes. Here are a few issues that a Notetaker uploading handwritten notes must take into consideration:
- Handwriting style is easily readable
- Ink/lead is dark enough to be read following scanning/picture
- Scanner/Digital camera quality is high enough for clear image
- Skip lines while taking notes to allow later addition
After uploading notes for sale, it is important that you promote yourself as a Notetaker. There are two ways to do this on MakeUp Notes. The first is to compile the email addresses of people in your classes and send them flyers showing that you have notes from that class available for sale. The second is to print flyers and hand them out when you go to class.
To promote your notes by email, click on the "Promote Notes" link at the top of the white box on the logged in "My Locker" page. Then add email addresses to your buyer list by clicking "Add/Edit Address Book." After adding email addresses click the "Send Flyer" link, choose which flyer you would like to send and click "Send Flyer." Your flyer will then be sent to everyone in your address book.
To print flyers, click on the "Print Flyers" link on the "Promote Notes" page mentioned above and click print above the flyer you would like to print. Each flyer will print two per page and is automatically filled in with your Notetaker information, like your schedule registered with MakeUp Notes, to help buyers identify you. After printing the flyers, distribute them to your fellow students in class.
Sellers with higher Notetaker GPAs will sell more notes than sellers with lower Notetaker GPAs. To maintain a high MakeUp Notes GPA and increase the likelihood of users purchasing notes from you, review our "Taking Lecture Notes" note taking guide at the bottom of the homepage and be sure to always upload your highest quality notes.
We pay every seller weekly through PayPal on Friday night. Be sure you provide an accurate PayPal email address or you may miss a payment. Notetakers receive $1.50 for every set of notes they sell, with no limit on how much can be earned. Sell 1,000,000 notes, earn $1,500,000. It is that simple.
To edit notes that you have uploaded, click on the "Sell Notes" link at the top of the logged in "My Locker" page, click on "View My Notes" and select the notes you wish to edit. You will be taken to the same page you used when uploading your notes so that you can change any information that you would like.
If you believe a note that you have uploaded is no longer high enough quality to be for sale on MakeUp Notes, then simply use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the homepage. Be sure to provide us with your username, the course for which the notes were taken, the date of the notes and the "Note Title" so that we can remove them from search results.
After selling 300 notes, we collect tax information from you via a "W-9" form so we can issue you a "1099-Misc" form for tax purposes at the end of the year, and if you do not fill in this form when automatically prompted, we may have to withhold funds from you until the form is completed. This information is collected and stored on our secure servers. You will be automatically prompted for this information when it becomes necessary and do not need to complete it until then.
MakeUp Notes will donate five cents from every note sale back to the student government of the school the Notetaker attends. We do this to promote a better environment for the students that use our service and to enhance the services the students can provide for themselves at the individual school level. There is no action required from any users or Student Government representatives to receive this donation.
To make changes to you profile on MakeUp Notes, click the "Edit Profile" link at the top of the white box in the logged in "My Locker" page. Here you will be able to change any information that you have submitted to MakeUp Notes. Information such as name, email, password, date of birth, security question, PayPal email address, school, address or gender can be edited on this page. Your MakeUp Notes username cannot be changed at any time following your account creation.
We manually verify the identity of all users who register as either a faculty member or school administrator. We do so in order to ensure the reliability of the materials on our site, and to protect the personal copyrights of all users. With the ability of faculty and school administrators to freely view notes and upload materials for free download by students this is vital cocern to protect the integrity of the services provided by MakeUp Notes.
